Biographical Summary
"Sir James Hope of Hopetoun - Sixth son of the celebrated Sir Thomas Hope of Craighall, Lord Advocate of Charles I., by Elizabeth, daughter of John Bennet of Wallyford, was born 12th July 1614... He was admitted an Ordinary Lord on the 1st June 1649, and was elected a commissioner for the county of Stirling in 1649 and 1650, and named one of the Committee of Estates... He died at Granton, on the 23rd November 1661, immediately on his landing from Holland, where he had contracted the disease then known as the Flanders sickness."
