Sir Thomas Kerr 9th Baron of Ferniehirst. Born at Ferniehurst Castle to Sir John Kerr 8th Baron of Ferniehirst and Catherine of Cessford, great grandson of Sir Thomas and Catherine, daughter of Robert Colville of Ochiltree and heiress of Oxnam. Husband of Janet Kirkcaldy married 10 Feb 1561/62 in Jedburgh, father of Andrew Lord of Jedburgh, William 10th Baron, Mary (Mrs James Douglas), Julian (Mrs Patrick Home and Mrs Thomas Hamilton), Margaret (Mrs Robert Melville d 1594). Married secondly to Janet Scott and father of James, Thomas, Ann (Mrs John Elphinstone) and Robert Earl of Somerset.

Sir Thomas Kerr of Ferniehirst was noted for his loyalty to Mary Queen of Scots, for whom he built a fortified house in the centre of Jedburgh.
