Thomas Vincent, Esq. who married Jane, daughter and sole heir of Thomas Lyfield of Stoke-D'abernon, Esq. by Frances his wife, daughter and co-heir of Edmund lord Bray; and in her right was possessed of that estate which lies upon the river Mole, and for distinction is called D'abernon, from the Dabernons, ancient lords of that place, as the inscription in the church thereof farther shews ; which said Thomas Vincent, Esq. fixing his residence at Stoke, as before-mentioned, exchanged his manor of Bernake with Thomas Cecil, earl of Exeter, for lands in the county of Surrey, that his estate might lie more contiguous. He lived in great reputation and esteem, and Queen Elizabeth, as a mark of her favour, gave him the honour of a visit at Stoke, on Sep. 25, 1601, at which time her majesty conferred on him the honour of knighthood. He died Dec. 14, 1613, aged 70. she, Jan. 23, 1619. They had issue two sons, Francis and Bray, who died unmarried; also a daughter, the wife of Sir Matthew Brown, of Beechworth Castle in Surrey, Knt.
