Sir William was knighted in about the second year of Edward VI, and served the office of high sheriff for Yorkshire in the following year. He died about the 13th year of Queen Elizabeth.

His first marriage was to Elizabeth, daughter of Sir William Middleton, about the 18th year of King Henry VIII. He and Elizabeth had 11 children, 3 of whom were: (1) Sir Walter, his heir and knight of Calverley, married Anne Danby, had 3 sons; (2) Thomas, married Isabel Anderson; and (3) William, married the heiress of Calverley of Park House.

His second marriage was to Elizabeth Sneyde and they had 3 daughters: (1) Beatrix, my ancestor, (2) Jane, married Mr Anby; and (3) Elizabeth, married Mr Hallie.
