(47 - Birth family) Sir Claud Hamilton of Shawfield, Linlithgow, 5th son of Claud, 1st Lord Paisley (No. 20), died Oct. 19, 1614. He married Janet, dau. and heiress of Sir Robert Hamilton of Leckprevick, and Easter Greenlees, and had issue:
- (a) Sir William (No. 48)
- (b) Alexander Hamilton, died young.
- (c) Robert Hamilton, died before 1657, leaving two sons:
- (1) Claud Hamilton
- (2) Alexander Hamilton, both living 1663
- (d) Claud Hamilton
- (e) James Hamilton
- (f) George Hamilton, last two dying unmarried.
(48) Sir William Hamilton of Manor Elieston, County Tyrone - born about 1604, died May 16, 1662. He was served heir to his father May 12, 1632.
- He married, first, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir James Johnston of that Ilk, and had:
- (a) Sir James (No. 49)
- (b) William Hamilton of Leat, County Tyrone, who is said to have married Mary Walkingshaw, and had issue.
- He married second Beatrix Campbell, whose Will was proved July 6, 1667, by her he had:
- (c) Claud (No. 50)
- (d) Archibald Hamilton
Children:
(49) Sir James Hamilton of Manor Elieston, Will recorded July 3, 1696 (Edinburgh).
- He married, first, Mary, daughter and heiress of Sir Robert Jacob, and had:
- (a) William Hamilton of Manor Elieston, died sine prole. Will proved July 14, 1703. He married Deborah.
- (b) John Hamilton of Castle Damph, County Tyrone, died sine prole.
- He married, second, Eleanor, daughter of Sir James Innes of Thurston, and is said to have had issue.
(50) Claud Hamilton of Montalony, third son of Sir William Hamilton (No. 48). His Will recorded Aug. 31, 1695. He married Isabella and had issue:
- (a) William (No. 51)
- (b) Claud (No. 53).

Sir William Hamilton of Manor Elieston and Shawfield, who had a charter under the great seal of the lands of Shiells and Leckprevick, united to the barony of Leckprevick, dated June 28, 1611. [Mag. Sig. Lib. xlvi, No. 348]
He was retoured heir to his father, Sir Claud, May 12, 1632, in the lands of Shawfield, the church lands of Rutherglen, etc., which of old belonged to the Abbey of Paisley. In 1633, he sold the tiends, parsonage and vicarage, of Quhittinghame in Berwickshire, to Sir Arthur Douglas of Quhittinghame, Knt. [Inq. Ret. Lan. 175]
He had issue by his first wife:

He was succeeded by his eldest son Sir James Hamilton of Manor Elieston.
