book "morris migration" by anne morris mertz says Thomas Morris born 1633 was probably the fifth child of william of tintern, and that he probably didnt come to america,but stayed in Barbadoes william morris was living in the 1600's on an estate called Tintern in Monmouthshire Wales, near the lovely Tintern Abbey. William Morris was a Quaker and a friend of William Penn's father. He had 5 children- 1-Lewis Morris born 1601-died 1691 the eldest and most daring was a strong Quaker he acquired the island of Lucia and married Elizabeth Almy, daughter of Chris Almy of England. Penn's father was a welshman and an admiral under cromwell Lewis morris was made a colonel in 1655 and was advised by Cromwell to make himself "master of the West Indies" 2- William Morris jr born 1612 second son of William of Tintern was lost at sea but his son John (died 1688) owned plantation lands in Barbadoes 3-Mary Morris of Tintern-born 1614-possibly married william webly came to america and held lands in new york next to her younger brother richard the merchant. 4.-Richard morris born 1616 or 1636 died 1672-the main progenitor of the american morris family-he was married in barbadoes to Sarah Poole Served with distinction under brother lewis's regiment under Cromwell then went to Barbadoes 1654 Richard left the island to become a merchant in New York he owned 1/3 the Morrisania NY estate with brother lewis owning 2/3's -after only two years in NY, Captain Richard Morris died leaving a son son was--Lewis morris born 1671-died 1746 extremely wealthy, owner of Tintern Falls Iron Works resided at both Tintern Manor , Shrewsbury NJ and later the westchester NY plantation Morrisania.
