"It is not obvious from the descriptions, but apparently Walter de Gaunt/Gant of Folkingham & Walter de Lindesay, whose son William de Lindsay of Fordington, Lincs. founded the Lindsayline of Scotland, are one and the same person. At least they are both named Walter and sons of Gilbert de Gant/Ghent. I presume,given Walter's rather late marriage to Maud of Brittany, that he either had a 1st wife or a mistress who was mother of William de Lindsay."

Malahule's great-grandson, Randolph De Toknt, who was extemporary with Richard 2ndj Duke of Normandy, had two sons, L Rooer, whose sons, Randolph and Robert, accompanied William the Conqueror to England in 1066, and were the ancestors of the houses of De Toeny and Stafford; li. Hcoo, who founded the family of De Lindsay.

He had two sons, Randolph De Lindsay, who accompanied William the Conqueror to England in 1006; Balderic De Lindsay, who, in 1036, held lands in Lincolnshire under Hugh Lupus, Earl of Chester.

Balderic de Lindsay was succeeded by his son,

Walter De Lindsay, who was a great baron under David, Prince of Cumbria, afterwards King of Scotland, and was witness to the inquest of that prince into the possessions and rights of the see of Glasgow in 1110.

Walter de Lindsay was succeeded by his brother,

William De Lindsay, who was Lord of Ercildoun.
