About Sir William de Marney, Knight
Sir William de Marney was born c.1310 at Leyre-Marney, Essex County, England. He was the son of John de Marney and Avice de Gernon. He lived during the reign of King Edward III of England (1327-1377). About 1329, he received license from that king to assign thirty acres and the church at Leyre to three chaplains.
Sir William married Catherine Venables, daughter of William Venables of Bradwell. He was succeeded by his son Robert de Marney, who married Alice le Lacer, daughter of Richard le Lacer and wife Juliana. Alice was the widow of Sir William le Bruyn.
