Author Ricky Butch Walker theorizes that Corn "Old" Tassel's wife was the sister of Hanging Maw. [1] Corn Tassel's wife is not mentioned by name in any records and Hanging Maw is not mentioned as a relative of John Watts, who was a nephew of Corn "Old" Tassel.

Walker also states incorrectly that Corn Tassel and his wife were the parents of "Young Tassel," (a nickname for John Watts, who was actually the son of Corn Tassel's sister ) [2] and a daughter who married a Chisholm. The woman who married Ignatius Chisholm was the sister of a different, later, man also named "Corn Tassel." [3]
