About Solomon Akers, Jr.
Solomon Akers , Jr was the son of Solomon Akers Sr., and his wife Miss Lorton (possibly Lydia Lorton). He was born in Buckingham County, Virginia c.1791. His family moved to Floyd County, Kentucky about 1810 and began farming there.
Solomon Jr., married Matilda Mead on February 27, 1812 at Floyd County, Kentucky. Matilda was the youngest daughter of Robert Mead and Hannah Rhodes, early pioneers of Floyd County. They settled on Mud Creek in Floyd County.
By October, 1838, Solomon and Matilda had sold their 212-acre farm in Floyd County and moved to Missouri. No one is certain why they moved. Possibly it was just for the flatter, fertile ground found in western Missouri. Matilda died prior to 1847, when Solomon married Susan McCraw.
Solomon Akers , Jr died in 1876 at Raytown, Jackson County, Missouri.
