Jonathan Wesley Akers was born on 4 May 1814 at Kentucky. He was the son of Solomon Akers , Jr and Matilda Mead. Jonathan married Sally Howell, daughter of Thomas Howell and Elizabeth Meade, on 7 June 1837 at Floyd County, Kentucky. He died on October 27, 1874, in Floyd County, Kentucky. He was buried at Rainey-Hunt Cemetery in Floyd County, on Toler Creek, a branch of the Sandy River. That cemetery is now known as Ballard-Hunt.
