Solomon Baker (b. April 13, 1770, d. Abt. 1847)
Solomon Baker (son of Andrew Baker and Elizabeth Avent) was born April 13, 1770 in Osborne's Station, Ashe County, North Carolina, and died Abt. 1847 in Washington County, Arkansas. He married Mourning Dove Calloway on 1795 in Ashe County, North Carolina.

Notes for Solomon Baker: Solomon Baker was born 13 April 1770 in Osborne's Station, Ashe County, North Carolina. He married Mourning Dove Calloway about 1795 in Ashe County, North Carolina. She was born about 1774 in North Carolina believed to be the daughter of Benjamin Calloway and Red Wing. It is believed that she was at least ½ Shawnee. Delia Camelia Whitaker told her grandchildren that her great grandmother was an Indian Princess; this is believed to be a reference to Mourning Dove Calloway. The following is an excerpt from Reba Oler about the parents of Mourning Dove Calloway:

"My GGGG Grandfather was Benjamin Calloway he left Ky.in the late 1700s after having taken a young Indian girl from her tribe twice and twice they came and took her back, the third time the two of them ran away and didn't stop until they reached the wilderness of N.C. Im 64 years old and very well remember what my G Grandmothers family said about them. I know three of the children's names were Betsy, Fanny and William and there were more.they lived on Calloway peak very near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Ben was a hunter and said his cousin married Jemima Boone. I have done a great deal of searching but cant determine which Calloway would have been his Father--the Indian girls name was Redwing but for some reason I had the impression she was Shawnee--anyway I looked at the Ashe co. census and found Solomon Baker so this tells me Morning Dove was very likely one of Ben and Redwings daughters as that was the general area--"
