According to a passport application dated May 1, 1914, Solomon Benjamin stated that he was born near Bernsdorf (in Saxony), Germany and arrived here in this country around May 1861 on a ship named the Copernicus and had since his arrival had lived in Charleston, SC, Marion, SC, Ocala, FL, and Atlnata, GA. Solomon became a naturalized citizen in at the Court of General Sessions held in Charleston, SC on July 6, 1862, the Hon. Franklin J. Moses, presiding judge.
