THE JEWISH CHRONICLE, MARCH 30,1934 Obituary of MR. SOLOMON COHEN (Liverpool)
The news of the sudden death of Mr. Solomon Cohen while on a visit to Eretz Yisrael, has been received with deep sorrow by the Liverpool Jewish Community, of which he was one of the most esteemed members. The deceased had endeared himself to every member of the Community by his deep knowledge, his upholding of Orthodox Judaism and his unbounded generosity. No good cause ever appealed to him in vain, and his deeds of Gemiluth Chesed were a household word in the Community. Among Jews and Gentiles alike he was noted for his upright dealings, and his word was his bond.
Mr. Cohen interested himself in many phases of communal activity, and took a particular interest in Jewish education. Among other offices which he had held were those of President and Trustee of the Talmud Torah Schools, Treasurer, President and Trustee of the Hope Place Congregation ; and he was a member of tho Jewish Board of Guardians and of the Committee of the Yeshiva and other local Communal Organisations. He devoted his life to good deeds which will be remembered for many years to come. In him, the Hope Place Synagogue had one of its most ardent members and regular worshippers.
His interest in the upbuilding of Palestine was evidenced by his liberal contributions to the Zionist Funds, and his visits to Eretz Yisrael were undertaken with a view to assisting in the development of the Jewish National Home. The deepest sympathy of the whole Community will go out to his widow, children and grandchildren and to his brothers, in their tragically sudden bereavement.
Further tributes to the late Mr. Cohen have been received from Mr, H. Beacon, President of the Hope Place Synagogue, and the Rev. S. Wolfson, Minister of the Sefton Park Hebrew Congregation.
