When Solomon was eighteen, his family moved to Swa nsea, Mount Hope Neck, Massachusetts(now Bristol, Rhode Island). On 1 September 1681, he attended the first town meeting. Swansea was where the first attack was made by chief Metacom (called King Phil lip by the English) in King Phillips War six years before. Solomon Curtis's arrival was probably part of a resettlement of the area, the first settlers being wiped out. "
