Note: About 1685 this family removed to what is now Barrington, R.I., but then part of Rehoboth, Mass. where he died in 1711. Had land and children recorded at Bristol, was called of Swansea in 1704.

When Solomon was eighteen, his family moved to Swansea, Mount Hope Neck, Massachusetts (now Bristol, Rhode Island). Swansea was where the first attack was made by chief Metacom (called King Phil lip by the English) in King Phillips War six years before. Solomon Curtis's arrival was probably part of a resettlement of the area, the first settlers being wiped out. "
