His death was reported in the South African newspaper "Die Burger" on 09 Jan 1990. In the report it was stated that he was one of the last poets of the old guard. The report also went on to say that he died in the Johannesburg General Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was especially remembered for his poetry collections called "Liedere van Salomé" and "Die Koue Tye" which appeared in the 1950s. He was remembered as a founding member in the "Afrikaanse Letterkundige Vereniging". He leaves behind his adopted son Ignatius Mocke and his adopted daughter Etrecia Mocke. The funeral was held the following day at noon in the Braamfontein, Johannesburg chapel of Thom Knight funeral directors.
