About Sophie Bohrer adopted Hahnemann

Adopted (in about 1851) daughter of Melanie, the widow of Samuel Hahnemann. This was an adult adoption in accordance with German law which allows the adoption of an adult if the adopter is 16 years or more older than the adoptee. Melanie introduced her to her future husband, also the son of a homeopath.

Sophia Maria Barbara Bohrer was born on 12.1.1828 in Sangüesa, Spain and died on 7.2.1899 at Darup.

She was the natural (illegitimate) daughter of the Violinist, Composer and concertmaster Max Anton Joseph Bohrer (*1783,+1852) and Francesca (Fanny) Romana Dülken (Dulcken) (1805 - 1875), a Pianist.

Sophie married on 29.7.1857 in Paris, Carl Anton Hubert Walburgis von Bönninghausen, Physician and Lord of the Manor of Darup near Coesfeld). He carried on Hahnemann's practice in Paris after his death. He was the son of Clemens Maria Franz von Bönninghausen (1785 - 1864), also a Physician.
