Sophie Neumann (nee Breuer) came with her husband Alfred Neumann to England at the end of 1938.
Sophie had two grandchildren, Bryan and Peter Newman ( both born Neumann) from her son Kurt Neumann and her daughter-in-law Joyce (nee Kay) Neumann. Both grandchildren were born after the death of Alfred, her husband.
Alfred was interned by the British on the Isle of Mann and later put on a boat to be deported to Canada. The Boat was the Arandora Star. The Arandora star was torpedoed by the Germans and Alfred drowned. The Jewish survivors of this tragedy were then put on a boat and deported to Australia within 72 hours of being rescued. That boat was the Dunera.
She is buried in Willesden Jewish cemetery next to her sister Ida Meller (nee Breuer) as requested in her will.
When Sophie was widowed in 1941 she liver with her sister in Rossmore Court, London until she died in 1956,
