About Sora Nayvedel

"the great Rabbi Zalmele was survived by a little girl "seven years old" and she grew up in the house of her uncle the great Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin. The great Rabbi Chaim chose Moshe Yehoshua as [her] groom." (Hillel Steinschneider, Ir Vilna, Vilna 1900, page 175)

In earlier versions of the family tree she was referred to as "Bat Sheva". Apparently, the name "Bat Sheva" came from the above Ir Vilna quote, which says she was "Seven Years Old" [Bat Sheva Shanim] when R' Zalmele died. Her name is not given in Ir Vilna, but appears in the All Lithuania Database records as "Sora" the "daughter-in-law" of Benjamin son of Sholim Nayvedel, the wife of Ovsey (Yehoshua) in Žemaičių Naumiestis [=Neustadt-Tavirg]. The name Nayvdel/ Novidel/ Neividel is used by Yehoshua's family for several generations. Her husband, Yehoshua Nayvedel was called "Neustadter" when he taught at the Yeshiva in Volozhin and later in Vilna.
