Soren J. J. Sorensen

Soren was born May 16, 1891, on a small farm near Jutland, Denmark. The oldest of six children, Soren had to begin working as a farmhand at a very young age. His own family was very poor, so he began thinking of what his own future might be like. "When I walked home past a big farm (150 dairy cows) and looked at those houses all around it- the kids were dirty and ragged and the wives would have to milk 20 cows or so twice a day- I thought, there is no future hear." He decided to come to the United States- "You heard about America and when people would come back or visited, you saw the way they spent money, there had to be something there so I thought I would go for five years." He left for America in 1911 when he was 20 years old.
