About Spicy Damron Case

Married Jackson Damron (aka Dameron) Sept 7, 1848.

Married Jasper Case Feb 23, 1866 after the death of first husband Jackson.

She applied for a widow's pension based on Jackson's service during the War of 1862 (the Civil War). She received $8 per month based on the 8 children she and Jackson had.

The pension was awarded despite Jackson being convicted of desertion from the Union Army. Convicted of desertion, he was sentenced to 6 months of hard labor with a lead ball attached to his leg with a chain. He died of consumption in prison while serving his sentence.

Pres. Lincoln commuted all war crimes related to the War Between the States, so this might be why she received the pension.

Spicy is buried next to second husband Jasper Case. First husband Jackson is buried 1/2 mile away in the Alfred Branham Cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Dec 16 2022, 21:51:26 UTC
