Squadron Leader Donald Couldery White DFC was born on 9th July 1932 at Moonee Ponds, Victoria, Australia. He was the only son of Tom White and Amy Couldery.
Don White DFC is a Military Veteran. Served in the Royal Australian Air Force 1953-1971 Continuing the excellent military service of his father and uncles, Donald served with the Royal Australian Air Force in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He did one tour of duty in Korea of 110 days from 11th November 1953 to 28th February 1954. He was a member of No. 77 (Fighter) Squadron in Korea. His Vietnam tour of duty commenced on 28th January 1970, continuing until 28th January 1971. By then he was Squadron Leader of No. 9 Squadron.
Don White DFC was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Don was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for bravery. He later rescued a man in the open sea off the New South Wales coast with a hazardous helicopter manoeuvre, for which he received the Queen's Commendation.
Don passed away, aged 84 years, on 20th July 2016 at Warwick, Queensland. His remains were interred at Warwick Lawn Cemetery, Warwick. The following comment was published in the The Courier Mail: "WHITE, Donald Couldery Sqdn Leader D. F. C. Late of Warwick, passed away peacefully on 20th July, 2016, aged 84 years. With love, sorrow and respect from the family."
