Mom went as far as 8th grade in school. (1911). She went to work atCorning Glass Works, Corning, N.Y. This was before they had childlabor laws. Also, it was before an 8 hour days shift was established.She said they put in long hours. She married my Dad September 1,1914. She was 17 and my Dad was 21 years old. She became a mother in1915. Besides raising seven children, she did housework, cleaning andtaking in laundry from people that could afford outside help and nottoo much pay in those days. It got easier as each one of her childrenmarried and started their own families. She would be called DomesticEngineer in these modern days. When Rose O'Bryan Davis's mother,Myrtle Paul O'Bryan died, my mother and dad raised Rose from the age 5or 6 until she married LeRoy Davis in 1930 or 1931. Uncle Claude, oneof my mother brothers and a World War 1 Veteran came to live with us ashort while until he went to the Veterans Hospital in Bath, N.Y. Momwas born June 25, 1897 and died October 26, 1972. Cause of death waspulmonary thrombosis, mesenteric thrombosis&arterial scleroticheart,hardening of arteries.Mom's funeral -- Kenyon's Funeral Home.She attended the Methodist Church and her pastor officiated, Elkland,Pennsylvania.
