About Stephen Arnold
He lived on the homestead farm of Cyrus Arnold, Esq. An obituary notice for Stephen in the Providence Gazette of Saturday, 5/7/1796, says "that his intellectual faculties were of a superior kind, that benevolence and humanity were prominent traits in his character, that he was frequently appointed to offices of trust by the town and by the State, and that he held the office of Justice of the Peace for upwards of 30 years."
Details of his will are as follows:
"Arnold, Stephen, of Smithfield, yeoman. Will dated 2/7/1785, proved 5/30/1796, pp. 501-502. Mentions wife Rachel Arnold. Sons Elijah Arnold under 21, and Cyrus Arnold under 21. Daughters Alpha Arnold, Joanna Aldrich, Mary Aldrich, Diana Aldrich, Bathsheba Aldrich, Rachel Arnold, and unnamed daughter wife of Elisha Bartlett, father of 3 grandchildren of testator. My three grandchildren daughters of Elisha Bartlett : Alpha, Patience and Mary Bartlet. Witnesses : Aaron Arnold, Samuel Taft, Samuel Aldrich, Elkanah Spear.
