About Stephen Beebe

Stephen Beebe, the son of William Beebe, was born 10 Sep 1688. As Stephen was named in the will of his father, it is clear that he was alive at the time of his father, William Beebe's death on 8 August 1750.

Secondary Source, Clifford Beebe, Genealogy of the Family of Beebe, [6] Data Extract:

1) Beebe Genealogy, Vol I; Page 13. William Beebe (23) and his wife Ruth Rogers were the parents of Stephen (71), William (72), Ezekiel (73), Nathaniel (74), Margaret (75), and Lydia (76)
2) Beebe Genealogy, Vol I; Page 26. Vital data: Stephen Beebe (71), son of William Beebe (23), was born circa 1696 at New London, Connecticut. His date of death is unknown, but he was still living as of 14 Nov 1734.

1.) Marriage. Stephen Beebe married Mary Leach, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Miner) Leach
) Children (by Mary Leach): Ruth (217), Abigail (218), Amos (219) and Reuben (220).

Married twice

Finally, the eldest living Stephen Beebe, son of William Beebe, born circa 1688 had previously married Mary Leach on 16 Nov 1716, as noted earlier in this analysis. Hence in order for Stephen Beebe, son of William Beebe to be the beau of Sarah Robbins on 07 Dec 1738, his first wife Mary Leach would have had to have died prior to this date. It can be seen from the primary data record that the births for children of Stephen and Mary Beebe ceased with Reuben in July of 1734, hence offering a strong circumstantial argument that Mary Leach did indeed die in 1734 or within two years thereafter. This would leave Stephen in dire need of a partner to help raise his young children and the 1737 betrothal date fits exceedingly well with this scenario. Stephen would have been 49 at the time and Sarah Robins would have been 28, which is a significant age gap, but not at all unusual (especially for second marriages) during this time period. Hence the weight of evidence indicates that Sarah Robins was the second wife of Stephen, son of William.
