Was a foreman at the Honerine mine near Stockton Utah.
Was the foreman at the new drossing plant (lead smelter built in 1912) of the International smelter in Pine canyon north east of Tooele. The plant was closed permanently in 1972 and is currently and super fund site. Many neighbors of the plant complained of the poison gases and smoke coming from the plant. Reports of cattle dying and crop damage from the pollution are many. Stephen's death is consistent with poisoning from the air he was breathing and water he was drinking daily. Further proof of the contamination is taken from an article in the Myton ut paper of 1915 (shortly after Stephens death) where Stephen's son-in-law Elmer Bates was in the Uintah Basin looking to lease farmland around Red Cap (Arcadia) from the Ute tribe to escape the poison gases from the smelter.
