STEPHEN JONES b. ± 1642, cooper and "Culler of Pipestaves," arrived at Oyster River by 1660. On 19 Mar. 1665-6 he was accepted as a resident. He had a grant at Johnson’s Creek in 1672. In 1668 he and Stephen Chesley were arrested in connection with Edmund Green’s death.He was a freeman on 15 May 1672.
He married Elizabeth Field 28 Jan. 1663-4. In 1672 (when he was about 30) he and his wife witnessed in the Chesley cattle case. He was the administrator of Williams Beard’s estate in 1676. See Hill (21), Davis (4). Lists 362b, 363abc, 356m, 311c, 365, 366, 359a, 54, 49, 92. Pike's journal says she died 10 Mar 1705/6.
He was last alive in 1680 when Jeremiah and Samuel Jordan were reaping for him but dead by 1682 when his widow was taxed. She died 10 Mary 1705-6 after a long illness. Lists 52, 96.
Three known children:
Cutter suggested he was son of William but no evidence seems to support this relationship.

Biography
Stephen Jones was born in 1642 in England. He was a cooper and culler of pipestaves. He arrived at Oyster River, New Hampshire by 1660. On the 19th of March 1665-6 he became a resident. He took the Freeman's Oath on the 15th of May 1672. He had a land grant at Johnson’s Creek. In 1668 he and Stephen Chesley were arrested in connection with Edmund Green’s death.[1] [2]
He married Elizabeth Field on the 28th of January 1663-4.[3] In 1672 (when he was about 30) he and his wife were witnesses in the Chesley cattle case. He was the administrator of Williams Beard’s estate in 1676. [1] They raised four known children.
