About Stephen Wesley Kendall

I was born in Lebanon, Tennessee 11/1948- delivered by my uncle Dr. Charles T. "Chili" Lowe. He was my grandmother, Ann Lowe Bailey's, brother.

About 1958 my mother Betty Bailey Kendall divorced my Dad, Romie Wesley Kendall in Augusta, Ill. and moved back to Concord, Tennessee to the farm where I grew up, known as STATESVIEW. Concord was an unincorporated community in Knox County, Tennessee, United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. Statesview or States View, is a historic house located on South Peters Road off Kingston Pike in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. Built in 1805 by early Knoxville architect Thomas Hope and rebuilt in 1823 following a fire, Statesview was originally the home of surveyor Charles McClung (1761–1835). Following McClung's death, newspaper publisher Frederick Heiskell (1786–1882) purchased the house and estate, which he renamed "Fruit Hill."[3] The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architecture and political significance.

My Grandfather, Lucien L Bailey & Grandmother, Anne Lowe Bailey bought the house and 100 acres of land in 1940. I grew up here and worked hard on the farm doing multiple labor related chores along with riding/training horses for my mother, who started a full service riding academy in the early 60's.. I spent many hours on a John Deere "A" plowing and mowing fields cleaning stalls etc. and riding the horses in competitive events. Life was tough, my grandfather was shot while on the Golf course at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville around 1956 and remained totally unconscious for several years before passing leaving my grandmother "Nanny" to keep the farm going and help her daughter raise us kids. .

I entered college in the fall of 1967 at the University of Tennessee school of business and worked my way through along with a stint in the US Army Reserves, which I joined in 1968. UT was where that I met my wife, Karen Gray and we were married in June of 1972. She became a school teacher and I began a career in the Commercial Lending business with Westinghouse Credit Corporation in Atlanta, Ga. We moved up the ladder and moved around the country with my promotions, having two wonderful girls in Columbia, SC. who grew up and have their own families now. One is a Physician and the other a Dental Hygienist and married to two great young men. My wife and I are retired now and live in Alpharetta Georgia in the Windward Community.

My hobbies have been hunting, especially if it involves my Labrador Retrievers which I have had the pleasure of owning and training and hunting over since 1986. I also have always loved flying and have had a Pilots license since 1978. I have flown light sport aircraft and gliders over the years as time and money allow..

I have not discussed my Dad so I will now, his name -Romie Wesley Kendall, b 1916 in Martin, Weakley County Tennessee, he married my Mother "Betty" in 1947 at Statesview in Concord, Tn., I was born 11/1948, the 1st of 2 siblings..

About the time I was 20 years old I decided to go meet my father again, we rarely ever saw him growing up.and I wanted to find out about him so we started an annual Thanksgiving family get together along with my brother and sister. It became tradition for the men folk to hunt waterfowl as he lived on Lake Barkley in Western Kentucky . This was when we started bonding again and we continued our annual hunts at Thanksgiving until he became ill and died in 1994. I have continued this tradition with my S-I-L, Aaron Lamar and hope to pass it down to my grand children.

My interest in Ancestry started a few years ago, primarily because I did not know anything about my Kendall ancestors. Well, I have a good understanding now and am passing the Heritage down to my own children as well as to my other family members who have an interest in knowing about their Roots. I have enjoyed the journey and will continue to grow my knowledge base as this hobby is now a passion of mine. . .
