STEWART NAGLER Obituary
NAGLER--Stewart Gordon, died March 29, 2012 after a long illness. He was 69 years old. Beloved wife of Ronnie. Devoted father of Ellen, David and Amy and grandfather of Brooke and Emily and cherished stepfather of Lauren and David, Dana and Steven and grandfather of Adam, Evan, Emma and Alex. Loving brother to Lenore and David. He was predeceased by his first wife Bonnie and his parents Mary and Henry Nagler. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was a summa cum laude graduate in mathematics of the Polytechnic University of New York, and later served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Polytechnic. He spent his entire working career of 43 years at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Metlife, Inc., retiring in 2004 as Vice Chairman, Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors. He was a long-time leader in the insurance industry, responsible for numerous innovations in the life insurance and pension business, and was a former Chairman of the Life Insurance Council of New York and a board member of the American Academy of Actuaries. In recent years he was active as a director of the Nassau County AHRC Foundation. He had previously served as a Chairman of the Reinsurance Group of America, a board member of Tesoro Petroleum Corp., a Trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and a Trustee of Barnard College. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 2 at 11:45am at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Nassau County AHRC Foundation, 189 Wheatley Road, #3, Brookville, New York 11545 or The Dana Farber Cancer Institute to Support the Ronnie and Stewart Nagler Fund, with checks sent to The Dana Farber Cancer Institute to Support the Ronnie and Stewart Nagler Fund, c/o Kate Hall, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, Massachusetts 02445.
