Sailed on the "Martha Ridgeway". The Saywells along with their friends the Judds had been selected by George Duppa of Hollingbourne House. George, a younger son of a well-to-do family, had joined the New Zealand Land Company, set up to develop New Zealand as a colony, as an investor. He set off in late summer 1839 with his own group of labourers and artisans.
