About Susan Woodham

Marriage

[] Tuesday 23 May 1882 Marriage - BURROW - WOODHAM - on May 7 at Holy Trinity Church, Avonside, by Rev W.A.Pascoe, Arthur Thomas, eldest son of Mr Thomas Burrow, Bingsland, to Susan, 2nd daughter of Mr Charles Woodham, Ashbourne, Ferry road. [] Bingsland became Richmond Suburb between central Christchurch and Shirley. Known originally as Bingsland, it had working-class houses, small shops and artisans’ workshops. Tram and later trolley bus lines passed through en route to North Beach. [] There was an Ashbourne Place in Woolston that became Hart Street (not far from Aldwins / Ensors Roads). [] Also an Ashbourne Street in Philipstown that became a part of Ferry Road (may be the part nearest town). [] "...Ferry Road just on the town side of Aldwins / Ensors Roads and the area was referred to as Ashbourne." [] Ashbourne is an early suburb which was part of Woolston, in the vicinity of Ferry Road, named after Ashbourne in Derby, England. Go to the Christchurch City Library site, Heritage, and search for Ashbourne. You will get a big pdf file of 1 - 2 Mb. http://library.christchurch.org.nz/Heritage/PlaceNames/Christchurch... []

Lyttelton

In 1850 Lyttelton was a town of about 300 when the site of Christchurch was still bare plain, but Christchurch overtook it during the 1850s. The town’s role as the region’s port was assured with the opening of a rail tunnel in 1867. []
