9. JOHN CUMMINGS (Isaac,=^ IsaacO married Jan. 23, 1688, Susanna Town, daughter of Joseph and Phebe (Per- kins) Town; born in Topsfield, Dec. 24, 1671, and died Sept. 13, 1766. His will was made May 8, 1722, and proved July 16 following. He bought Jan. i, 1693-4, of Grace Andrews, his grandmother, widow of Robert, for £60, 80 acres swamp and meadows, south side of Ipswich River "second division," bounded by Porter, Ipswich river, William Town and William. Perkins. His father in 171 8, deeded his homestead to him. He. was then dwelling on the tract first mentioned. In his will, after giving to Susanna her thirds of lands on the south side of the river, he divided the farm his father gave him between his sons, Joseph and John, partly in Topsfield and partly in Ips- wich, north side of the river; to his son, David, who was ex- ecutor, all his lands on the south side of the river and the east side of Nichols' brook, and a small piece of meadow on the west side of that brook; to his youngest sons, Stebbings and Samuel, "all the rest of my lands and meadows on the west^ side of said brook to the river." He made specific gifts to h^^ daughters also.

She was to receive from her father's, estate in 1722, £40. I. Mary, baptized Mar. 15, 1723-4- 2 Susanna, baptized, Nov. 28, 1725. 3. Bethiah, baptized July 14, 1730.
  • vi. Susanna, born Jan. 13, 1701-2, married Feb. 14, 1721-2, John Whipple, of Salem. She was living 1722-3.
  • vii. Stebbins, bom Aug. 1706, married Ruth, daughter of John and Abigail (Raymond) Giles, of Salem Village, baptized Sept. 16, 1705. He was a cooper. Sold, 1732, 52 acres and- one-half barn which was formerly given to brother John by- father's will. The same year he bought in Sutton ; in 1747^ also. His will, Apr. 22, 1760, was witnessed by Jacob Cummings and Jacob, Jr., giving Ruth Hawes is, and also property of David and Eli Putnam. History of Sutton says he was the first teetotaler in town, but his full temperament and florid complexion led strangers to think, otherwise. He married Betty Carriel

  • ix. Rebecca, baptized Novv i, 1713, married Feb. 2, 1730-1, Thomas Perkins, born Mar. 30, 1707. He married second, May 8, 1746, Lydia Curtis, who died Sept. 5, 1750. He married third (published Jan. 14, 1753) Susanna Prescott, of Hampton, N. H., by whom he had 11 children, besides the two below of the first marriage. He died Mar. 4, 1786
