William Woodford married Susannah Garrett on 31 October 1745 in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut.
The surname "Garrett" is likely a modification of the French surname "Garat." From the time of the French and Indian War until the Louisiana Purchase, many Americans of French ancestry attempted to shed their French roots. One outcome was to change the spelling of the name from Garat to Garrett.
