"Receipt of Alexander Boyer for merchandise to be traded by him for account of Susanna de Truy"

I, the undersigned, acknowledge that I have received from Susanna de Truw two pieces of duffel, one [mss destroyed] piece of duffel being long 38 ells and the standard grey piece being long 37.5 ells, which aforesaid merchandise I promise to trade for her benefit. This day, the 19th of September 1649. Was signed: Alexander Boyer. We, the undersigned, declare that the receipt, written, dated and signed as above, was found by us to agree with the original, this 16th of March 1651, New Amsterdam [Jacob Jansen Huys, Gerret Jan(sen)], acknowledged before (me, Jacob Kip [clerk]."

I would think Susannah might have made such arrangements as part of managing her household, whether or not her husband was alive or away, and so would not take this as necessarily indicating that Philippe was gone.

"Entered in the church record at Amsterdam as a worsted-dyer from Robez (Roubaix), not very far from Avensnes. He and his first wife, Jacquemine Noiret, had joined the Waloon church at Leyden in 1617. It is likely that he and Jesse de Forest, being fellow dyers in the same city, were friends even at that early day. Apparently Philippe and his wife moved to Amsterdam, for several of their children were baptized there, the last one in 1620. It was evidently there, too, that Jacquemine died; for in 1621 in Amsterdam, Philippe due Trieux was betrothed to Susanna du Chesne. There is not much doubt that Philippe and Susanna were among the colonists who came to New Amsterdam on board the New Netherland in 1623. He was long known there as the "Court Messenger" or Marshal, as we should call him now. In 1638 (or possibly earlier, as the official records prior to that time are missing he owned a detached hillock on the shore of the East River overlooking "Smit's Vly", which is still called "The Swamp." At the times of his daughter's marriage he was, however, living in a house which he had built on "Bever Graft" (Beaver Street).

In 1637, when the de Forests arrived in New Amsterdam, Philippe du Trieux was quite an old inhabitant, and we may be sure that he had a warm welcome ready for Jesse de Forest's children. Indeed, it is on record that almost as soon as they established themselves in the Muscoota bouwery Philippe furnished the family with pumpkins!"
