About Suzanne Soret

Suzanne and her husband were protestant. King Louis the XIII laid siege on La Rochelle from pressure from the Catholic church. La Rochelle had a wall around it. The King built another wall around that wall and a dyke across the water way so that they were literally starved. There were 20,000 people in La Rochelle. Within a year there were only 5,000 remaining. The rest had died of starvation or were killed when they ran into the open field between their wall and the wall built by the King. Maybe it was suicide, better than dying of starvation. The people were eating everything in sight including leather.
