About Sven Isak Danell

Sven Isak Danell (25 November 1903 – 18 January 1981), Bishop Emeritus and a prolific writer. Theologist and bishop of Skara diocese 1955-1969, the oldest diocese in Sweden.

Sven Danell was born on the 25th of November 1903, son of Hjalmar Danell — later the bishop of Skara — and his wife Maria, born Beckman. After graduating Bachelor of Theology, Sven was ordained the same year in Skara Cathedral. The years 1930-1937 were spent as a priest in Noarootsi Parish in Estonia. After returning to Sweden he was the director of Ersta deaconess institution in Stockholm, later becoming a court chaplain (hovpredikant) and vicar in West Tunhem. 1955 he was appointed bishop in Skara, a post from which he retired in 1969. Sven Danell passed away 18th of January 1981.
