About Sven (Petersson) Peterson

GEDCOM Note

Swen Peterson and his wife Helena were pioneers in the town of North Branch, Minnesota where they helped establish the Trinity Lutheran Church.

In spite of the county record calling him "Swan", this is in error. He was born Sven Petersson and died as Swen Peterson.

>From Lawrence Peterson's Writings:

(Lawrence) wrote that Sven & Helena and their three sons (Pete had emigrated earlier) left Malmo, Sweden on May 10, 1883. Sven was from Mobygget, Stromby N:r 1 (Svinhult farm number one). Sven was a drystone mason, woodcarver, carpenter and farmer. Torparen (crofter, cottager, or peasant) precedes his name in Swedish records.

Sven was on the quiet side but was strict and firm. (He) was of a stocky build as it seems were also his sons.

Sven and Helena had not had an easy life. In Sweden, it was poverty and hard work plus much sorrow. Five of their children died and were buried in Sweden and left behind as they came to America. The children were not all babies that died. Ida was two months, Hilda - three years, Johan Fredrik - 1apos;bd years, Ingrid - 6 years, and Erik 3 years. It is hard to imagine their burden of sorrow in having five children die in a period of time from 1863 to 1877.
