Her third marriage is confirmed by the 1181/82 Pipe Roll which records "Radulfus de Alben" accounting for ".cc. m pro ducenda matre Ebrardi de Ros" in Yorkshire[Pipe Roll Society, Vol. XXXI (1910) The Great Roll of the Pipe for the 28th year of King Henry II (London) ("Pipe Roll 28 Hen II (1181/82)"), p. 46].

Her first and second marriages are confirmed by the 1165/66 Pipe Roll which records "Wills de Pci" accounting for ".cccc. m. p uxore Robti de Ross hnda" in Yorkshire[402]. “Willielmus de Percy” donated Topcliffe church to York Cathedral, for the souls of “uxoris meæ Sybillæ…filiorum quoque et filiarum mearum”, by undated charter witnessed by “Sybilla de Valloniis…”[404]. According to Medieval Genealogist

John Ravilious, posting on GEN-MEDIEVAL in 2009,

Sibyl ... [was] the sister [not daughter] of Philip de Valoins of Panmure, chamberlain of the king of Scots (d. 1215). Philip did have a daughter Sibyl, but the evidence is clear that she was the wife of Robert de Stuteville (dvp bef 27 Nov 1213), eldest son and heir of Nicholas de Stuteville of Liddel (d. bef 30 Mar 1218). Her parentage is proven in a charter of Philip de Valoines, granting her lands in Torpenhow, Cumbs. as her maritagium [see below].

Charta Philippi de Valonijs, Rob. de Stutevill.

Sibyl VALOGNES Heiress of South Petherton

Born: Abt 1138, South Petherton, Somerset, England
Married: Abt 1149
Died: After 1218, Appleton Priory, Yorkshire, England
General Notes: Henry Sutliff gives no ancestry for Sibyl. In fact I have no good source for Sibyl's ancestry, just what I have picked up on the internet.
Note: Henry Sutliff indicated that Gunnor & Matilda were daughters of Sibyl, but that Ralph may have been son of a 2nd wife (in which case Sibyl would not have lived as long as I have her).
Marriage Information: Sibyl married Ralph D' AUBIGNY of South Petherton, son of William "Brito" D' AUBIGNY Lord of Belvoir and Cecily LE BIGOD Heiress of Belvoir, about 1149 . (Ralph D' AUBIGNY of South Petherton was born about 1126 in Belvoir Castle, Belvoir, Leicestershire, England and died in 1191 in Acre, Palestine.) 1. Everard De ROS

PASSAGE
“Sybil, the daughter of Philip de Valoignes, became the wife of Robert de Stuteville. This Robert was the brother of Nicholas and William de Stuteville, as appears from the Close Roll of the 3rd of Henry III. Dugdale supposes Sybil to have been the second wife of their father Robert de Stuteville, and makes no mention of a brother of that name.”

PASSAGES

  • “[Yorkshire]. RICHARD DE PERCY claims from Robert de Haulay one curate … and [comes] and denies [Richard%E2%80%99s] right and says that Richard’s grandfather William De Percy gave that land to [Robert%E2%80%99s] father, Joelan for homage and service to hold from [William] and his heirs for their service of the tenth part of one knight, by [William%E2%80%99s] charter, which [Robert] puts forward and which attests this. And for this reason it seems to [Robert] that Richard is bound to warrant him that land etc.
  • “And RICHARD [DE PERCY] comes and says that that charter should not harm him, because if the aforesaid William ever made it, he did so in the illness from which he died; and indeed, he says that Robert’s father Joelan never had seisin in the lifetime of the aforesaid William, and if he had any seisin of that land, he had it through William’s wife SYBIL DE VALOINES. An so it seems to him that [the supposed grant] should not harm him, since [Joelan] had no seisin in the aforesaid William’s lifetime.”
