Biography

Sylvanus Nock was born circa 1657 in Dover, Strafford Co, New Hampshire. His parents were Thomas Nock and Rebecca (Tibbetts) Benmore.

Sylvanus married Esther (Philbrick) Beard on November 12, 1715 in Hampton, Rockingham, NH.

Sylvanus married Elizabeth (Emery) Nock on April 20, 1677 in Kittery, York, ME. Together they had the following children: Elizabeth Emery (Knox) Abbott; Sylvanus Knox; Mary May (twin) Nock; Sarah (Nocke) Joy; Elder James (Knox) Nock; Henry (Knox) Nock; Deacon Thomas (Knox) Nock; Zachariah Knox.

He died between March 7, 1716 and February 13, 1717 in Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire and was buried in Dover, NH, United States.



He was apprenticed about 1670 to John Hall, Jr. His grandfather Henry Tibbetts, his mother and step-father, John Hall, Sr., and Elizabeth Wentworth were present at the transaction. Sylvanus and his first wife lived at Dover, New Hampshire. About 1689 they moved across the border to Kittery, Maine. He made his will on 7 March 1716 and died before 13 February 1717, when his will was proved.
