Sylvester Rich

Sylvester was born about 1785, the son of William Rich and Abigail Rich. He married to Susan Peck on 5 January 1812 at Bristol, Connecticut. They made their home at Meredith, New York where Sylvester was a farmer. He was active in his community. He was a member of The Social League, the first temperance society formed at Delaware County, New York. He held the office of Town Supervisor at Meredith for several terms. He also held the position of Postmaster at that place and later at East Franklin, New York and at Croton, New York. The family relocated permanently to the community of Croton at Franklin, New York about 1840. Sylvester and Susan had two children; Hannah S. Rich who married to Merritt McKoon and Tracy G. Rich.
