Carl R. Vogt

Dansville Junior High Teacher Succumbs at 60.

A well-known Dansville school teacher, Carl R. Vogt of Highland Avenue, died Tuesday (May 5, 1987) in Noyes Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was 60.

Mr. Vogt was a history teacher in the Dansville Junior High School for the past 24 years. Previous to joining the Dansville faculty, he taught in Wayland Central School for three years.

A native and life resident of Dansville, he was born Sept. 8, 1926, a son of John and Hortense Keefe Vogt. He received bachelor's degree and master's degree at Geneseo State University College. He also had studied under grant programs at Union College in Schenectady, Brockport State University College and at the Freedom Foundation in Valley Forge, Pa.

Mr. Vogt was a submarine service Navy veteran of World War II. He had been an active member of Daniel Goho American Legion Post and Frank Casbolt Memorial Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Dansville. For many years, he was actively involved in the candidate selection program for Boys State sponsored by the American Legion. Mr. Vogt was a member of St. Mary's Church and was a member of the State's Teachers Association.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Organ Vogt; a son, Peter who is stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; a daughter, Carolyn Guarrera of Rochester; a brother, Donald of Lewiston; three granddaughters; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was said in St. Mary's Church Thursday. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville, with arrangements by the Chamberlin Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School or the Dansville Ambulance Fund.
