T/Sgt Tinklepaugh enlisted in the US Army on September 18, 1939, and was trained at Langley Field, Chanute Field, Scott Field and Tyndall Field prior to embarking for overseas in April, 1943. He was a graduate of Exeter High School, class of 1938 and a well know resident of the Piston area.

His plane was hit by enemy fighters. Flames could be seen in the bombay. It turned and left formation and a few minutes later it crashed, burning on the ground.
