About Taale Hansen

1865 census for Dysju, Næs:

---------------------------------

Taale got after 50 years long and faithful service « Selskapet for Norges Vel» silver medal.

He was a workman at Nordre Kise until he was 85 years old.

Only the 2 last years of his life did he live at Nes retirement home, but as a paying member.

He was also called Taale Kiseodden and Taale Kiserønningen.

When Taale died, an obituary was written about him in one of the local newspapers.

Newspaper extract:

"Taale Hansen was with his careful moderation always seen after his condition as a prosperous man.

A brief outline of his long working life.

After most of his children had traveled to America, did they persuade him to follow them there.

Taale traveled in the spring, was there about 2 or 3 weeks, but could not settle into the new environment, came back home at autumn, began again as before on the same salary on Kise.

America was not the place for him.

Taale Hansen was one of those men that had their home country in their heart and as his first and last place, his home, where he worked.

One has to admire such loyal, cautious men of the old school, and I am tempted to ask: Does our country have such men now?

Taale got after 50 years long and faithful service « Selskapet for Norges Vel» silver medal."

He was a cotter with land at Kiseodden in 1875. For 40 years he was a crofter at Nord-Kise, and lived on the farm 63 years.
