Great-grandmother of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Tabitha Bragdon is also recorded as Tabitha Brougham. She was born on 1 December 1723 in York, Maine. She was the daughter of Samuel Bragdon and Tabitha Bankes. Tabitha Bragdon married Stephen Longfellow, son of Lt. Stephen Longfellow and Abigail Thompson, on 19 October 1749 in Falmouth, Maine. Tabitha Bragdon died on 11 June 1777 in Falmouth, Cumberland, Maine, at the age of 53.

Her husband, Stephen Longfellow, was a participant in government as town clerk, clerk of the Proprietors of Common Lands, clerk of the Judicial Court, and Register of Probate for Cumberland County. Though they lived in Gorham until death, Stephen and Tabitha are buried side-by-side in the Eastern Cemetery and their graves are marked with beautifully carved stones including borders and winged faces.
