Tabitha Selitty Martin (Jordan) was born in February 1835 in Lawrence County, Mississippi, United States. Her parents were Greenberry Jordan and Sarah (Sally) Chandler.
Tabitha married Hamilton Beecher Martin circa 1857 in Lawrence, Newton County, Mississippi, United States. Together they had the following children: He died during the Civil War.
Tabitha married Ransom Carlisle circa 1857 in Lawrence County, Mississippi, United States. Together they had the following children:
She died circa 1920 in Pollock, Grant Parish, Louisiana, United States while living with her children. She may have been with Reuben Jordan family.
Tabitha had a difficult life after her first husband Hamilton Beecher Martin, Pvt, CSA died during the Civil War, she worried about not being able to manage the home and property without being married and raising her two young son's alone. Like many young widows, she chose to marry. Her late husband's friend and war comrade Ransom Carlisle. Ramson fought alongside Hamilton and brought home news about him to the family and church members. Ramson's wife had passed away as well.
Life was difficult after the war in the south, crops were burned, livestock stolen, and they had to start over building their life together, They had several children together, and then Ramson sadly passed away, leaving Tabitha with very meager means to support her family. She moved the children she had with Ramson to Louisiana where the Carlisle family settled around Grant Parrish, She did whatever she needed to provide food and clothing for her children, even taking in other people's washing in her home. In her later years, she seemed to be estranged from her two oldest sons born to her first husband. She died circa 1920 in Pollock, Grant Parish, Louisiana, United States.

*********** To the Honorable __, the Judge of the 12th Judicial District of Louisiana, holding Court in and for the Parish of Grant: The petition of Tabitha Carlisle, domiciled in said Parish, with respect shows that she is the widow of Ransom Carlisle, deceased, and the mother of Monroe Carlisle, Sarah Jane Carlisle, Martha Carlisle, and Annie Carlisle, all minors under the age of twenty-one years. That by law she is entitled to be confirmed as natural Edutrax of said minors. Wherefore, she prays that an order is entered recognizing and confirming her as natural Edutrax of said minors and that she be allowed to take the oath as such.
