About Talmadge Williard Howell

Talmadge was a twin. His brother (Tally) died 2 years later, 03 Jun 1891.

My grandfather did not like the name he was given, T. Dewitt Talmadge Howell, so he changed it himself (not legally) to Talmadge Williard Howell. He was named for a prominent Presbyterian Evangelist and minister whose name was Thomas Dewitt Talmadge. My mother (Irene Howell) was told this by Talmadge's mother, Louissianna L. Windham, (my mother's grandmother). Exactly what year he made this change, I do not know. Ironically, my mother (Margie Irene Howell) did not like her name, and changed it (not legally) to Majorie Irene Howell. I believe she did this when she was a teenager, but that is just a guess.
