About Teagarden Solomon Debolt, Sr

The following is from “DeBolts in America: The DeBolts of Fayette and Greene Counties, Pennsylvania,” written by C. Gerald DeBolt in collaboration with Esther DeBolt Ryczek, digitized in 2001 by Ron and James White, retrieved August 17, 2007 from http://www.brittanywhite.com/Debolts%20in%20America.txt.

"Teagarden Solomon Debolt, Sr. was one of the youngest sons of George Debolt of Fayette Co., Pa. He was willed his father’s farm in1822. He took title to it in 1826 about two years before his father’s death in late 1828 or early 1829. This farm was 153 acres located on Catt’s Run in German Twp. It was the land originally warranted by his grandfather, Michael Debolt, Jr. in 1773, land which Michael bad probably farmed by “squatter’s rights” since the late 1760s. Teagarden Solomon was born on this farm about 1795. At least two of his children, Jeremiah and George, who are mentioned in their grandfather’s will, had been born by 1822, the date of that will. The wife of Teagarden Solomon was Mary Debolt the youngest daughter of George and Ann (Long) Debolt. Thus, T.S. and Mary were first cousins one generation removed. Their fathers, both Georges, were first cousins. Mary’s father, George, lived in Greene Co. Of course, T.S.’s father was from Fayette Co. Their children would have both grandfathers named George. Teagarden Solomon did not live much past the age of 40. He was already dead when his father-in-law, George Debolt of Greene Co., died in 1839. As stated before (P.13),George died without a will. If I understand the court records correctly, the unmarried children of T.S. and Mary had left Fayette Co. and were living with their grandfather in Greene Co. on the “White Oak Flat” farm near Mapletown. I don’t know if Mary was with her children. I suspect she was with the death of Teagarden Solomon Debolt c.1838. The history of the Debolts at the Catt’s Run farm south of Masontown in Fayette Co. comes to an end."
