Temperance was born in 1746, in Colchester, Connecticut. She is the daughter of John Smith and Temperance Holmes. [1] She was baptized on at Stonington First Congregational Church, on Oct 11, 1747, [2]
First Marriage She married first, Thomas Holmes, and had the following (known) children, born at Stonington, Connecticut (the first three as listed by Wheeler [3]):

Second Marriage -- Second, she married Jonas Hewitt (1737-1824), about 1784 (or earlier) [4], with whom she had the following (known) children:
