Tena Vande Zande

Tena Vande Zande, 76, of Waupun, died Thursday evening, May 27, 2010, at the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun, surrounded by her family.

Tena was born on Nov. 16, 1933, in the Town of Scott in Columbia County, the daughter of John and Annie Vander Meulin Westra.

Tena was a graduate of Cambria High School.

On Sept. 10, 1953, she married Russell Vande Zande in Friesland. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Waupun all of their married life.

Tena was employed at National Rivet and Manufacturing in Waupun for 37 years. She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon. Tena sang in choir, served as a youth group leader, a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Ladies Guild. Tena enjoyed traveling and hosting rummage sales — another way of meeting and interacting with people. She was also involved in prison ministry in the area.

Tena is survived by her husband, Russell Vande Zande of Waupun; two children, Karen (Richard) Redeker of Brandon and Kelvin "Kelly" (Sandra) Vande Zande of Brandon; four grandchildren, Daniel (Amy) Redeker, Eric Redeker, Klint (Megan) Vande Zande, and Kyle Vande Zande; and a sister, Katie Wiersma of Manchester.

Tena was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Chuck, Jake, Ted, Ed, Gene, Pete, and John Westra; and three sisters, Ida Westra, Hattie De Vries, and Ethel Van Buren.

Services: Funeral services for Tena Vande Zande will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon. The Rev. Wick Hubers will officiate. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery in Alto.

Visitation: Friends and relatives of Tena Vande Zande may call on the family on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun; and again on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m., at the church.
