About Terence Toews

Terence Toews, husband, father and grandpa, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on March 11, 2011 at the age of 78 years. Terence was born in Swalwell, Alberta on April 23, 1932 and was the youngest sibling of the nine children of John and Elizabeth Toews. In his early twenties Terence worked on a logging crew. He married Vera Boese in 1954 and took over his fathers dairy and grain farm. He actively farmed it for 6 years during which two daughters and three sons were born. Terence moved his family to Calgary in 1960 to further his education at Mount Royal College. They lived there for two years, then moved back to the farm. Two more daughters were born. Terence rented the farmland out and became a successful businessman in the Linden area for many years, working as the Co-op store manager, an accountant, a chicken farmer , a few short years in Drumheller as a Butler Grain Bin distributor. He started his accounting business, Morning Star Consultants in the 1980's and retired in 1997. Dad continued to live on the farm until 2004 when he and Vera bought a house in Linden. Dad will be remembered for many things: his work ethic, his leadership in his family, community, and church; his volunteer work on the Kneehill Ambulance; teaching first aid; his love of history, philosophy, reading , writing, and good , meaningful conversation. He spent much time playing with his children and grandchildren, hiking, biking, camping. Everything that he did was tempered by his faith in God and his personal relationship and love for Jesus. Dad did not put much value in material possessions and was always a person who stood up for the underdog or less fortunate in society. Terence is pre-deceased by his son, Austin; three brothers, Bill, Bernard and Stanley; four sisters, Anna, Elsie, Edna and Olga; and his parents John and Elisabeth Toews. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Vera; his children, SuAnn Poettcker(Clarence), John Toews, Gladene Toews (Daniel Makasoff), Myles Toews (Patty), Ellen Toews Evans (Doug Evans), Adele Toews; eleven grandchildren , three great-grandchildren and his sister Helen Stone. Funeral services were held at the Linden MB Church in Linden, Alberta at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2011.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 19 2022, 4:45:57 UTC
